GRAFFITI WALL

The story started in the early nineties with a man named Michael Anderson who peeled graffiti stickers he thought were cool off the streets of New York City. Almost two decades later, the number of stickers he amassed grew to an astounding 40,000 and quietly narrates the story of New York City from its midst at street level. Last April, Ace Hotel commissioned a mural consisting of 4,000 or so of Anderson’s stickers and printed them onto silk paper in black and white as a dense collage. This wall mural is now a fixture in the lobby showcasing works of Barry McGee, Steve Powers and many unidentified talents of the city through the ages.
